Sincere Thanks

This summer has been absolutely crazy. Between serving Kansas FFA, competing in fast pitch softball tournaments, or getting ready for the county fair, time has been something I have treasured. When resting between all of these activities, I find myself enjoying time at home by catching up on sleep, spending time with my family, and believe it or not, writing letters. Most of this sounds pretty normal, right? Except, possibly, the writing letters portion.

Graduating from high school in May gave me the opportunity to write a load of thank-you notes to everyone who gave me support. Running for state office once again allowed me to thank a lot of incredible people for all of their help. Then came along State Conference for Chapter Leaders, when I had the privilege of spending three days with amazing members. Writing notes again came into play, however, in a little bit of a different way. During one session, we wrote sticky notes to each other, and that is when perspective on writing notes changed. I had always enjoyed receiving notes. In fact, whenever I get mail, I ALWAYS open the letters that are addressed in hand writing first. There is just something about it that makes my day so much better. Maybe it is because I realize that someone took time out of their day to think about me. I had always appreciated written letters, but the one I received at SCCL really got me. When laying down after a full day, completely exhausted, and a tad overwhelmed, I pulled out a note that read:

“Inspire others in FFA, just like you have inspired me and others at our chapter this year.”

In this simple, handwritten, sentence I was completely reenergized. This member had fueled me back up and directed my focus back on the true reason of serving. I was so thankful for this simple note, that came from the heart. I don’t think they knew that this note would make such a huge impact on me, but it did. This note, which was filled with positive and impactful words allowed me to see that this is one of the most genuine and authentic things we can do as leaders. Kansas FFA, this year as we serve our chapters and communities let us remember the impact of expressing sincere thanks through heartfelt messages.
