Kansas CTE Scholar program

Jan 25, 2017

KSDE is excited to announce the creation of the first-ever statewide CTE student recognition program!  The Kansas CTE Scholar program serves to honor and recognize exemplary Career and Technical Education students at the state level. Students who excel in CTE fit exactly the blueprint of a successful Kansas high school graduate and this program was created to celebrate those students!

CTE students who meet the following criteria can qualify for CTE Scholar status:

  • A graduating senior
  • A CTE grade point average of 3.5 in all CTE courses above the introductory level courses.
  • Have at least 3 CTE credits (2 of the 3 credits must be above the introductory level) across CTE pathways.
  • Demonstrated technical skill attainment (ex. certification, CTSO competitive event or cPass).
  • Have documented community engagement and workplace experiences.
  • Have a letter of recommendation from a mentor (who isn’t a relative) based on a leadership position the student has held.

Students can be nominated by a teacher, counselor or school administrator. However, it is up to the student whether he or she wants to fill out an application form.

Application forms must be received by KSDE by March 15, 2017. Each qualifying student will receive a CTE Scholar lapel pin, certificate and letter from Kansas Commissioner of Education Randy Watson.

An overview page, sample application and submission form can be found in the “New Career and Technical Information” section of the Career & Technical Education (CTE) home page linked here:  KSDE CTE Main Page
