The Power of 2

Recently on a visit I met another young named Eric and that got me thinking about the number 2. What is so significant about the number 2? A pessimist might say that 2 is a useless number because it implies second place, and if you aren’t first, you’re last.
While that is one way to look at it, I tend to try to take a more positive approach to how I view this number. Pairs of things are important and everywhere think about how infuriating it would be if you had just one sock, just one glove, just one wheel on your bike, only one bun for your burger. This would drive you crazy. Now think about all the combinations of things that your love, peanut butter is great, and jelly is great but when you combine the two of them it makes for a phenomenal tasting sandwich. Or even better apple pie and ice cream. You can’t beat a combination like that.
Let’s look beyond food and clothing now. People. I love playing catch, but have you ever tried doing it alone? It gets tiring chasing after that ball if you don’t have someone to throw it back. Sometimes it’s even dangerous to do things alone. One of my favorite activities is lifting weights but when you are lifting heavy and don’t have someone to spot you, you could get seriously hurt.
Life is better when you have someone to share your successes with and someone to lift you up when you fail. Life also gets pretty boring when you only view it through one set of eyes. The more perspectives you have the more ways you can view life. By viewing life in different ways, you can look at situations and problems in a whole new light. At the end of the day even though oftentimes it’s easier to just say “Fine I’ll do it myself”, look to see if someone will do it with you, you never know how it could change things.
