Environmental Science CDE

Kansas FFA recognizes the Kansas Association of Conservation Districts competition called Kansas Envirothon at the qualifying event to determine state winners in two career development events, Environmental and Natural Resources and Forestry.  There are Area/District competitions and a statewide competition held each spring.

Members participating in the Envirothon are challenged to explore a current issue, selected each year by the National Conservation Foundation – Envirothon Operating Committee.  Using the knowledge learned from the core five subject areas (soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatics, and rangeland management), teams address the assigned current issue.  Working as a unit, the team must analyze a given scenario, develop a plan of action to address it and then present their plan to a panel of judges for scoring. 

1. All 5 members must be registered FFA members prior to the competition to be recognized as an FFA team.
2. If a team or FFA member has competed in a National FFA Event prior to competition, then the team is not eligible to return to that National CDE. (i.e. student A competed in Forestry prior year, that eliminates all team members from qualifying for Forestry event, since it is a team competition at Envirothon).
3. The Top FFA team score in the State Envirothon overall scores is named the State Environmental and Natural Resources CDE winner. The team will be recognized at State FFA Convention and is the state representative at National FFA Environmental and Natural Resources (ENR) CDE at National FFA Convention.
4. The Top FFA team score in the State Envirothon Forestry area scores is named the State Forestry CDE winner. The team will be recognized at State FFA Convention and is the state representative at National FFA Forestry CDE at National FFA Convention.
5. If there is a team that is top in both areas, the school has 1st choice of which CDE they would like to compete in, and the 2nd place FFA team in that area would qualify for the other CDE.
