Awesome

Blog

Awesome is a word that we use on a regular basis and have become very familiar with. We use it to describe anything from a day at a theme park to a comfy couch in the living room. What I find interesting is that the Merriam-Webster definition is as follows: “inspiring an overwhelming feeling of reverence or admiration.” This definition makes me think, do we overuse the word awesome? Does that couch we sit on that we call awesome, really cause us an overwhelming feeling? When someone tells us a story and we reply with “awesome” did we really have a feeling of admiration that truly overwhelmed us? I know I use the word awesome every day and it has lost its true meaning to me. To gain its value back I want to tell you something that truly overwhelms with admiration. The FFA.IMG_9609

When I first joined FFA, I did it only because that is what my entire family had done before me. It was an organization that my family had become passionate about, and I so I figured I was just expected to join. However as my time in FFA grew, so does my admiration for the organization. Giving speeches and conducting parliamentary procedure lead me to gain confidence in myself. Competing in judging contests lead me to find happiness and reassurance in production agriculture. Shop classes made me feel more comfortable working on projects for my dad’s equipment. And the FFAmily I gained in the process made me proud to be from Holton. The experiences I had throughout high school also pushed me to pursue a State FFA Office.

As my time as a state officer starts to come near an end, it reminds me oIMG_7330f all that has happened over the past year. I have 5 teammates that are now, not only life long friends, but also now they are like a family. I have traveled to and seen every corner of
this beautiful state and experienced stunning places in between. I have met some amazing chapters and some spectacular people. Those people have left an impact on me that truly define the words awesome. Because of every member I have come in contact with, I have become closer to the person I have always wanted to be. The members of Kansas FFA have helped me find who I am and how I can improve upon myself in every moment.

My question for yIMG_8023ou is what in life do you find truly awesome? What moments define an overwhelming feeling? How have those moments change and improved your life? Those ‘awesome’ moments are moments that we can use to improve our lives. Every moment in life is a special moment, but it’s the awesome moments that can truly leave an impact on us. I encourage you to seek awesomeness. You are an awesome person and you can find awesomeness in others. Be that person that inspires an overwhelming feeling in others. Be the person that allow
s others to inspire you.

Be an awesome you.
