Significant Moments

Blog

Have you ever had one of those days where your schedule is just back to back to back events? And even though its full day, and your events are stacked, they are all things you are super excited for. Those days where you just know it is going to be a good day, it’s a significant day. I had one of those days last Sunday, May 2nd. See May 2nd is my birthday, but it is also one of my roommate’s birthdays and this year it was also the day before we began recording state convention. So join me in walking through a (hectic) day in the life of me.

7:00am: Wake up, shower, get ready for the day.

9:00am: Birthday presents with the roommates

10:00am: Breakfast at Early Edition, (the western breakfast skillet is *chef kiss*)

12:00pm: Delta Sig Dogs
My roommates and I went to a philanthropy event for Purple Paws in Manhattan. Essentially we paid money to hold puppies and all the money raised went to benefit the shelter in Manhattan. Best. Birthday. Ever.

1:30pm: Meet my parents and sisters for a late birthday lunch

*insert an afternoon nap here*

5:30pm: Kansas FFA State Officer Recognition Banquet
My officer team, our parents, last year’s team, and their parents, all gathered along with a few other guests to celebrate the last two years and the ups and downs that occurred throughout our years of service. Mr. Dillion was the MC for the night, and he did a phenomenal job. As he recognized my team, he presented each of us with a “fun” question to answer as well as share a story with our parents.

Hannah was first up, and she was asked about one of her most memorable moments. Hannah took us back to January and shared a story about the time our team was headed to Kansas City. On the car ride there, Hannah’s car was following Ms. Kane, but Ms. Kane took a sudden turn off onto and exit and Hannah’s car was not able to keep up. Hannah’s car immediately started freaking out because they had absolutely no idea where they were going. In the end they we were all able to find each other back and make it to Kansas City safely, but those few moments of uncertainty was enough for that trip.

I was up next. Mr. Dillion asked me about my favorite road trip this year and I was immediately taken back to earlier this year when the team travelled to South West Kansas to visit the Hugoton and Stanton County FFA Chapters. The trip was filled with car karaoke, story telling, jokes, and so so much laughing.

Abby talked to us about attending the Sterling charter signing. Charters are always a fan favorite but Abby had a personal connection to this one that made it so so much more meaningful to her.
As stories were told, and memories shared, we all had the chance to reflect on our year. But here I am a week later, still thinking about all these memories. This last Sunday was a day full of events that seem significant. But the reality is, Sunday was not significant. In fact it was just another Sunday. It was the events leading up to Sunday that are significant. The first day I met my teammates. The members we interacted with. The long road trips. The late nights. The early mornings. The inside jokes. Those are significant moments. Sunday was a day dedicated to celebrating and appreciating those moments.

Recognize those moments as significant, because they are,
